Alice Faye (Could 5, 1915-- Could 9, 1998) was an American starlet and vocalist, called by The New york city Times "among minority flick superstars to ignore stardom at the peak of her profession". She is often related to the Academy Honor-- winning standard "You'll Never ever Know", which she introduced in the 1943 music movie Greetings, Frisco, Hey there.

Born Alice Jeane Leppert in New York City, she was the daughter of a New York law enforcement agent of German origin, Charles Leppert, and his Irish-American better half, Alice (née Moffit) Leppert. Faye's amusement job started in vaudeville as a chorus female (she failed an audition for the Earl Carroll Vanities when it was exposed she was also youthful), before she relocated to Broadway and a featured function in the 1931 edition of George White's Scandals. By this time, she had embraced her stage name and initial reached a radio customer base on Rudy Vallée's The Fleischmann Hour (1932-- 34).

She gained her first major film break in 1934, when Lilian Harvey deserted the lead role in a movie variation of George White's 1935 Detractions, in which Vallee was likewise to appear. He relaxed Faye from a wisecracking program gal to a younger, yet somewhat motherly number such as she played in a couple of Shirley Temple films.
